Can Herbs Melt Belly Fat?

Herbs do not melt belly fat. Research does suggest something more specific. Ceramides, a class of fat molecule, are increasingly recognized as drivers of belly fat accumulation, inflammation, and insulin resistance in midlife adults. Several Traditional Chinese Medicine herbs reduce ceramide production or interrupt their downstream signaling.

Panax notoginseng (Sanqi) contains notoginsenoside R1, which activates AMPK and inhibits serine palmitoyltransferase, the first enzyme in ceramide synthesis. Pueraria lobata (Ge Gen) contains puerarin, which blocks HIF-1α and SPTLC2 to prevent hypoxia-driven ceramide accumulation in the liver. Coptis chinensis (Huang Lian) contains berberine, which suppresses ceramide biosynthesis and decreases circulating ceramides. Cordyceps sinensis contains myriocin, a strong SPT inhibitor. Astragalus and Scutellaria baicalensis (Huang Qin) both activate AMPK and reduce ceramide-related lipotoxicity.

The picture is preclinical in most cases. The signal is consistent enough to take seriously. The mechanism is precise.
